Well, then...
This was a bit ago, but it was a treat to be farm hands to our 4H friends who were at a wedding.
"Hey Justin, do you want to have goats again?" This has been the longest hiatus I've taken from blogging. It's been a month. Not just on the calendar, but it's been A MONTH. One kid on crutches, another in a cast. A lot of unexpecteds. The worst part has been our beloved 4 year old Copper's acute illness. He had a well visit on April 30th and then two weeks later he wasn't expected to make it through the weekend. He did make it, which we are thankful for. He has been steadily going downhill, unfortunately. We are fully aware that our time with him will be short, but we are appreciating each good day he has.
This was a week before everything happened.
I think the pictures tell the story, the story of heartbreak and love all wrapped up together.

We are heavily involved with our local cat rescue. We've been involved with the thrift store to benefit it for some time, specifically some working in the shop and providing cost free storage for seasonal items. This fall we started fostering. We also go to the shelter on delivery days to unload supplies and other days to clean, clean, clean. Adrian is also in charge of taking out the trash. We just got a new job: Preparing the adoption folders. Plus, of course, lots of socializing the kitties. It is a good thing to be tired after a good day of service.
We're still fostering kitties. From left to right, Tootsie is our foster fail, she is ours forever. Moon was with us for a short term placement. Frosty has been with us a while. She was initially terrified of people, but we've been working hard to change that about her. I think she'll be with us another week and we'll be adding another round of kitties.
Heavy doesn't even describe the day we found Zippy had passed. We have been so blessed to love Zippy for all these years. Zippy was so so so loved and snuggled us every night. He just showed up in the barn, decided he wanted to live here and we decided he could. He spent his days roaming and his nights inside with us. 7 years ago the vet didn't think he'd make it through the night, we were blessed with him all these extra years. He died from natural causes on the farm he made his home. My gardening buddy, we decided to bury him near the garden. We will forever have a Zippy sized hole in our hearts.
Birds...
I don't ever remember holding a live wild bird when I was younger, but it's totally something that my kids keep doing. This is one that Anna-Kate rescued from the garage.
