My husband is super glad I dated this one dude in college. Without dating that dude, I wouldn't end up with his mom's recipe for soft sugar cookies. Now my husband benefits from the goodness of them. My husband may even be more thankful that that dude ditched me...as I became available to marry/bake for him. Remember, I how I wooed him with whoopie pies on our first date? My husband is the cookie monster. Except his skin isn't blue....yet. He will enjoy being Santa tonight with these cookies, I'm sure.
1 cup sour milk
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup shortening
1 3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
4 1/2 cups flour
1) Combine the sour milk and baking soda. Set aside.
2) In separate bowl combine shortening and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Add salt and baking powder.
Alternate the flour and milk/baking soda until all mixed.
3) Drop by rounded teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet.
4) Bake 375 for 10-11 minutes.
5) Let cool. Frost with recipe listed below
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla
couple tablespoons milk
4-5 cups confectionery sugar
Whip butter, shortening and vanilla. Add confectionery sugar and milk until desired consistency is reached. (I often reduce the confectionery sugar by a cup and replace with a cup of flour to cut the sweetness of the frosting. It all depends on what kind of sweet tooth you have).
